Stila Magnificent Metals in Diamond Dust

Hello flowerbombz!

I’ve come to realize as of late that I probably should just go ahead and own ALL of the Stila Magnificent Metals. I mean…they’re super glittery, stay put with the help of a glitter glue AND are just gorgeous. Either that, or I am just being extra and can’t get over the fact that glitter is apropos on the eyes for a hot minute.

I already have the shade Smoldering Satin, so I thought I’d pick up the next shade I’ve been dying to try…Diamond Dust!

FEAST YOUR EYES!

Apologies for my weird hobbit feet in the background of this pic, but the twinkle. AH LAWD the twinkle!

I also swatched it inside to get another perspective for y’all because I care.

If you do not own one of these colors, RUN don’t walk to Ulta and pick one up. Each one is gorgeous, neutral and adds that little bit-o pizzazz on the ol’ eye real estate. I just ca’t say enough good things about these!

So what do YOU think? How many of you own one of these pups?

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara Review

Hey tootsies!

Before I dive into this mascara, I thought I would remind you all of my two tried-and-true overall mascara tips guaranteed to work with ANY mascara.

  1. NEVER “pump” your mascara. This incorporates air into the bottle and will dry-out the product faster.
  2. Treat a new mascara like a fine wine. Open it, let it breathe. Obviously don’t leave the wand out or anything but give mascara like a week or two until you start judging it. I find that a newly opened mascara is never at it’s best right off the bat. It needs some time to ripen up and blossom.

Now back to the Covergirl Total Tease.

PACKAGING

I Gotta love the baby pink and black color combo. It reminds me alot of the Benefit Roller Lash in that regard!

WAND

The wand on this is pretty damn weird. The bristles are rubber, fairly short and spaced out. The bristles do not wrap all the way around the wand, either. On the side where there aren’t bristles, they put in a tiny bump at the tip of the brush with two little lash combs. I think the idea is the comb allows you to get into tiny places, like the inner and outer most lashes.

FORMULA

Sorry about the RBF

This is a wetter formula for sure and it does not dry super shiny. In fact it dries fairly matte and leaves the lashes feeling pretty soft. The product itself goes on the lashes fairly thick and goopy but because the wand is so separating, it works.

APPLICATION

I don’t find myself using the little comb on the end too much when I apply this product. I mostly use the other side and enjoy the separation it gives. I definitely like to wiggle this one back and forth between the lashes to ensure an even coat.

WEAR

Here’s what this mascara looked like at the end of the day:

It looked pretty nice throughout the day, albeit a bit scraggly at the tips of my lashes. It also doesn’t hold a curl wonderfully, but it definitely wasn’t the worst in that department.

OVERALL

I really like this mascara. It isn’t my absolute favorite but I am always hard-pressed to find a mascara that looks nice on it’s own. Most of the time, I have to use two different mascaras to achieve the length, separation and fullness that I want but this one does a pretty good job on it’s own. It is a bit more “gloppy” then I like on a day-to-day basis but sometimes I need those ka-pow lashes and this stuff delivers on that front.

FabFitFun Spring 2017 Box Review

Hi little darlings!

Today I bring you a post I never thought I’d have to write. Its true, y’all…I bought a FabFitFun box.

I know. I’m embarrassed.

Just the name alone makes me cringe.

But then sister Megan pointed out that you get a$80 Dr.Brandt microdermabrasion in the spring box…and I was like ok I see you FabFitFun. I also really like the pastel-colored round beach blanket. So I shelled out the $39 and had my box a week later. The box itself is quite cute. TWSS.

When I opened it however…JUST NO. NO FabFitFun. NO!

I got this beach blanket:

BLUE!???!??!?!?!! No. NOOOOOOOO.

I thought I was getting this one:

What am I going to do with a dumb blue tie-dye blanket? Can I get a re-gift?!

Then I pulled out  the lip-kit which again, I THOUGHT I was a pinky/nude shade.

NO. I got bright ass red.

boooooooooo

THEN, I pulled out these earrings…when I thought I was getting a cuff bracelet.

These look like the contents of the bottom of an H&M dollar bin. AND this is discriminatory to people with only one earring whole. AND it was missing an earring anyway.

NO FABFITFUN. no.

The rest of the contents included:

These Deborah Lippman mini polishes

I Used the pinky shade the other night and it took THREE streaky coats to achieve this:

(STILL NOT TOTALLY OPAQUE)

These Karuna sheet masks

They was aight. Nothing special.

This Briogeo Rosaro Milk.

This stuff is decent. I also just learned Sephora is selling it online. It retails for like $20 I think.

And the Dr. Brandt product I came for!

I haven’t used this product yet, but I know it’s going to be a good one!

OVERALL – This was SUCH a huge disappointment for me. I didn’t know there were options for some of the products and that is on me. But still, I can be mad. I tweeted the company about the lack-lusterness of the box and they are sending me the cuff as an I’m Sorry present and they offered me $5 off my next box which I will not be continuing unless they can figure out how to package up a real unicorn in the next one.

Ulta Haul

Hello my little rays of sunshine!

It’s supposed to get into the 80’s this week in Portland and if it does, I will surely DIE of happiness. I am so ready guys.

Last weekend, David, E and I ventured out to a shopping plaza and wouldn’t you know it…there was an Ulta!? Surprisingly, Portland doesn’t really have too many Ulta stores and sometimes a girls just needs her fix. I shopped around for about 30 minutes before David and E joined in and we had to go (the temptation to touch EVERYTHING is just too real for a 6 year old).

I knew I was going to buy one of the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow shades but couldn’t decide on one – they’re all gorgeous. I made up my mind and David stood in line with my ONE purchase while I walked E down to get some froyo. Later that day at home, he surprised me with a bunch of the stuff I had wanted at Ulta but didn’t buy. What a guy! So here’s the lineup!

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow in Smoldering Satin

You guys, this stuff is so freaking pretty. I might have to get every shade eventually. I wore it out to dinner that night (to the Olive Garden, what what!?) and absolutely could not stop staring at myself. haha

FYI – If you plan to try this product out, PLEASE BE ADVISED that it necessitates a glitter glue underneath. If you skip this step, you will have a hot mess of glitter all over yer mug. I used this one and it worked just great, which I found at Sally’s for $1.79

Now…back to the haul!

Eyelure Luxe Lashes in Baroque and Opulent

I have been eyeing (get it?) the “mink effect” style lashes for a while. Ardell has a couple styles out, but these ones from Eyelure are SO gorgeous. Look how wispy-soft they look! I cannot WAIT to don these puppies. Of course, I’ll take pics for you guys.

Tony Moly Pocket Bunny Sleek Mist

You guys know I wanted this 99% because of the packaging. I picture throwing this in mummer beach bag and spritzing myself before I run out to the beach. But like, in reality I will be using this to set my face after makeup during the hotter summer months.

Soap & Glory Pillow Plump XXL Lip Gloss in Nude in Town

This color is SO pretty you guys. Don’t let the shade in the tube fool you too much. It is THEE perfect nude ever. I have wanted one of these glosses forever but already owned the Buxom Full-On Lip Creams which also boast a plumping effect. Lemme tell ya, this stuff packs some SERIOUS tingle so you if you’re not a fan of the lip plumpers, steer clear of this. I happen to love the buzzing, tingling feeling – it’s like a little fairy is dancing on my lips saying “Get prettier! Come on! You can do it!” But like, pretty much it just eliminates the lines in my lips and makes them appear slightly more voluptuous.

Vacation Haul

Aloha little babies!

We leave for leave for Maui today! I COULD NOT be readier. Haha readier. I’ts just this GD weather in Portland has just been soooo dreary. I might pee a little when I see a palm tree…and it won’t be the first time.

With that being said – ONTO THE HAUL!

I purchased the above selections from Target. I got the swimsuits when they were doing a BOGO and the dress was only about $20. Its a super soft jersey knit and (as you can probably tell) I really like black and white stripes these days.

Side-note: I am totally on board with getting a one-piece swimsuit, in fact, there are countless styles I have been in love with. But each time I have tried one on, it’s the same issue I run into with bodysuits. The length of these puppies just won’t cut it when you’re pushing 6 feet. And unless you’re fond of the CT it just aint pretty. So until I pony up the cash to get a one piece built for amazons, I’ll stick to my two-piecers. #tallgirlproblems

Speaking of swimsuits, we also picked out this little tankini for E. I MEAN.

I also picked out a couple new things from the makeup dept because duh.

I wanted to find an illuminating makeup primer with SPF that I could wear under makeup or by itself. After doing a little research, I decided against a high-end brand and decided on this Maybelline Master Prime with SPF 30. Anyone heard a’this?

I picked up the Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in Bellini on a recent trip to Ulta. They were doing their “21 Days of Beauty” sale and I scored this for just $10 (normally $18)! These glosses are my absolute favorite because of the gentle plumping effect and super shiny finish. I also LOVE this in the shade White Russian.

This Wet’n’Wild Megalength Waterproof Mascara is just $2.99 from the drugstore and I actually think it’s pretty decent. It definitely is lengthening, but not super volumizing. I find you can build it up pretty easily and even though it is waterproof, it’s not a little B to get off.

This isn’t necessarily for Hawaii, but I did pickup this Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner at Ulta as my Stila Stay All Day is starting to dry up. Anyone used this before? Is it any good?

Mardi Gras. Mixed CD’s. Misc Mischief.

Hey there Jujubees!

I have a lot to get through today so I’m diving right in here!

A few weeks ago, David, his cousin Jackie, Grandma Rosalie and I went to an auction for her synagogue that had a Mardi Gras theme. I did green, purple and gold eye shadow but failed to get a good pic of it like a nincompoop.

Also, David booked us all a trip to Hawaii for the end of March which I must remember to start drinking Slim Fast for.

I even drew a palm tree to commemorate in my 2017 Hello Kitty day planner.

David and I went to a Blazers game vs. OKC and they won! Suck it Russell Westbrook.

those eyes tho

I used the H&M eyelashes for a date night/night out that I hauled in this post and was pleasantly surprised!

Annnnd, I wore a slightly tramp-ish dress with knee high boots and was all “I am woman, hear me roar!”

Then last weekend, I drove home to see my Mom, Meg and of course my baby Tate.

I discovered this in the CD case in my car (yes, like in High School) behind another CD and of course listened to the whole thing on the way to Kennewick. Lots of Blink 182, some Mandy Moore. you know.

All that one can get with him anymore is blurry pictures. The little meatloaf is so wiggly and fast.

But really, Tate is the absolute love of my life. I would do anything for him.

We got to do lots of fun things, such as…

Going for Fro yo!

Shopping at Target

Going to the park!

The Mickey hoodie slaaaays me

And of course, we spent lots of time hanging at Nana’s, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (his FAVORITE).

My Mom is also making everyone matching stocking for Christmas and aren’t they so cute?

She also hand-stitched this little easter egg ornament which she gave to me. I told her I’m opening her up an Etsy store and we’re both going to be rich! muaahaahahaaa

While at Columbia Center, I hit a jackpot of a sale at Gymboree for E and got her a bunch of awesome summer stuff for Hawaii including these flops which are to die.

And I cooked her up the best pancake art I am capable of.

Yes, we have a full set of four of these Hello Kitty placemats

And lastly, my Dad Gary Danielson was on the Variety Telethon in Des Moines. He is a celebrity. And I am his daughter. I’m not sure, but I think this makes us Kardashians now.

The Cheapest Makeup Ever

I feel juuuust fine writing this post and calling out this brand  on their sh*t because they are discontinuing it. Just a disclaimer.

Am I rubbing salt in the wound? um YISS.

It all started on a rainy lunch break, where I haphazardly wandered into the downtown H&M. I thought I’d get another 20-pack of pearl earrings, maybe a $5 clearance scarf I’ll never wear, you know – the usual suspects. But then I noticed that H&M’s complete line of makeup was marked down with big red stickers for just DOLLARS.

I asked the two long-haired young men working about the sale. Was it all on sale? Or just certain items? They told me that it was “all like 1 or 2 bucks” so of course I mozied over for a closer looksie.

Like a moth to the flame, I was instantly pulled in. Decent packaging, wide color selection and price tags upwards of $9.99, I thought I had hit the proverbial mother-load. I stuffed maybe 10 items in my claws and dumped them out on the counter to see what the prices would be. Long-haired boy no.1 looked down at the mess of products I was inquiring about and said “I’m just gonna charge you a dollar each for everything”. FINE BY ME YOUNG MAN.

So I walked out with a big ol’ bag a’makeup for $11. Total score. I  whipped out my phone once I got back to work to snap a pic and send a braggy text to Megan about my deal of the day.

img_1943

Later that night when David was putting E to bed, I excitedly dumped out all the packages on our bed and got to work taking pics for lé blog and swatching.

This is when my mistake was realized. Pretty much all of it is total crap. Like, worse than crap. Actual ka-ka.

The “sheer lip color” caught like crazy against my skin and the color was patchy and dry. It also wasn’t really that sheer.

img_1951

img_1953

img_1952

The concealer’s consistency was as if someone took a crappy $1 foundation from Dollar Tree, mixed it with some mineral oil, and stuck it in a tube. I couldn’t even get a proper swatch.

img_1954

The blue liner (while a beautiful sparkly blue color) completely flaked after 22 seconds.

img_1947

img_1955

This nail polish color is super pretty! It actually lasted for about 3 days before chipping.

img_1946

img_1990

And then there’s the lashes. I bought three packs of these. And I can happily report, they weren’t bad! Not the easiest to work with and I had to do ALOT of trimming and sculpting but they look aight (see below).

img_1948

img_2009

All of the brushes are SUPER wonderful considering the fact that they were $1. I wouldn’t have spent much more on them, though. They are decently soft and do the job.

img_1944

The only thing I have not used (and may never use) are these babies:

img_1949

The real victims here are anyone who paid full asking price for this stuff. I mean, $9.99 for the lipstick? I would rather buy a Homer Simpson Chia Pet.

So what did we learn today?

Do not go hog wild for discontinued, $1 makeup. Or if you’re like me, DO. Because you’ll get a kick out of it.
