Makeup Revolution Conceal and Hydrate Review

Good day little buttons!

I’m back with you today for a review of some v exciting products.

Those of you that know me well, are well aware of my affinity for a dewy face. It has yet to dew me wrong! (Sorry – hard for me not to pun when it strikes like that). So when I saw that Makeup Revolution had released a new sister concealer (that is hydrating!) to the ever-popular Conceal and Define – I knew I had to try!

When I went to Ulta to grab it, I realized two things:

  1. There was also a Conceal and Hydrate foundation
  2. Ulta was running a gift with purchase for spending $15 on Makeup Revolution

Mystery GWP

The tightwad and makeup hoarder inside of me was singing! I happily grabbed both, used $3 in points I had been banking and was on my merry way. When I got to the car, I tore into the mystery GWP I was just handed and let out a gasp.

There was a good $50 worth of products in there! See below:

So exciting!

I was looking forward to trying out the lipsticks especially, until I saw the colors…maybe for Halloween?

Anyway, let’s get on to the foundation review!

I opted for shade F3 after doing some quick jawline swatches with the in-store testers. I had Clara with me and doing this one-handed was no easy task.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn they put a pump on this version, rather than the large doe foot applicator. I am a big fan of the pump.

Now, onto the concealer!

I went with shade C2. Again, I wish I had more time to select the right shade but MOM LIFE.

Onto application! Here we are fresh-faced. Here, I am wearing moisturizer, primer and eye cream.

Here is photographic proof of why you should stay the F out of the sun.

I decided that I would try a beauty sponge AND a makeup brush with the foundation.

Flower Beauty Sponge

Sephora Mini Airbrush

The color was a pretty good match for me. Maybe a teensy bit too light, but overall not bad. One pump of this stuff covered my whole face and the consistency is more on the watery side.

Here we are with one coat of the foundation. I did not apply under my eyes.

As you can see, one layer does not provide full coverage. I did dot a little more directly on my sun spots directly, which did provide a bit more coverage.

Now, onto the concealer. (C’s sweet face in the background hahaaaaa). The color of the concealer was just a tad too dark. I do enjoy me a very light concealer.

Here we are all serious and blended out.

I really liked the concealer right away! Good coverage, VERY hydrating and easy to blend out.

For fun, I decided to dip into some of the freebies to finish off the look! Here is the contour pallete in Fair.

Of course I had to dip my finger RIGHT ON INTO the highlight shade to see what it was packing. It is actually a really gorgeous highlight!

Here we are contoured, blushed and highlighted! I also set my face with the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder FTW.

To finish, I added some mascara – this is the YSL The Shock mascara. It is a good one but you know how I feel about prestige mascaras. Drugstore mascara 4 LIFE.

Here we are with a little bit of brows and mascara on.

You can see a tiny part of Clara’s little hand in the bottom right of this photo.

Next, I decided to try the flawless foil eyeshadow.

There did not seem to be any directions provided on the box, but the liquid inside indicated it was a primer, so I placed a drop or two on my finger and patted it on my lids. Then, I dipped into the shadow (again, with my finger) and was surprised that it had a creamy texture. I patted the product on top of the primer and was left with the following effect.

Definitely pretty, but I am not sure it is worth the fuss of doing two separate steps.

And can I get an amen for my lashes?

I am telling you guys, go get you some Grande Lash. It works very, very well.

Overall – I liked both the foundation and concealer. I think I like the concealer a little better but I need to get a slightly lighter shade. The foundation is nice but I do not think it is ground-breaking. I do like the finish on the skin and how little of the product you need to cover the whole face.

Special thanks to my trusty sidekick Clara.

Summer Skin Products & Skinbuzz Review

Hullo little raspberries!

You guys, my skin is in a weird place and just allow me to tell you all about it. Prior to baby, I was workin’ hard on my GD age spots. I was using a combination of products from The Ordinary, including a retinol that I believe did make a difference…read about that here. While I am no longer using retinol (still nursing and whatnot), I have decided that since it is summer, I should probs have a tan. Because let’s be honest, a subtle glow just makes EVERYTHING better amiright!?

I have also decided I am OVER the traditional self-tanners. I am over the mitt. I am over the smell. I am over having to walk around my house naked, feeling all sticky and gross, waiting for my skin to dry. I do not have the time or patience for it anymore. Luckily, the market has recently become saturated with a product that seems to address all these issues -self tanning drops! The idea is to add a few drops of the product to an existing lotion or moisturizer, making application a snap.

So far, I have only tried out a couple such products. But they are truly popping up all over the place.

Here is what I have tried.

ON MY FACE – Ulta Beauty Glow by Morning Gradual Tan Drops

I picked these up due to the 4.5 stars they received online. As the bottle indicates, you simply add a couple of drops to your moisturizer. The formula is really nice. Not greasy at all and it blends easily into my night or day moisturizers. My only critique of this product would be that it is VERY gradual, as in, I do not notice a major glow right away. I wish it packed a bit more punch in the color department but I suppose not being super orangey is also a good thing.

ON MY BODY – Hautebronze Sun Drops

These drops function much the same way. The color of the drops themselves are a bit darker, but it blends seamlessly into any moisturizer I have tried.  In terms of color, these do pack a nice punch and I find that one application gives me a really nice, albeit subtle tan. I simply add 2-3 drops to a dollop of lotion for each “area”.

So far, I am really digging the self-tan drops. I think they are the way to go for us folks who are short on time. I plan to try all the formulas I can get my hands on, so leave any recommendations in the comments below!

When applying any self-tan to the bod, it is paramount that the skin is prepped and scrubbed. I like to use a sugar or salt scrub for this (careful to avoid my areas with KP!) and recently, I picked up this one from Lush!

Scrub Scrub Scrub

I decided on this one because it smells aaamazing. I love using it, but I will forewarn you all – this stuff is BLACK. Like, super black. As in, it could stain your tub if you do not spray it down the drain after using it. Yeah. I really love it other than that.

I also recently picked up this body wash because I am a total sucker for anything coconut.

Oil of Olay Ultra Moisture Coconut Oasis

TBH, it is not my favorite coconut scent but it’ll do pig, it’ll do.

Lastly, on our recent vacation to the San Juan Islands I tried out an amazing facial kit from Skinbuzz and was so delighted at the results!

First of all, check out this adorable and convenient little bag it came in!

The kit comes with four travel-sized products, a ridiculously soft washcloth and headband. The ingredient list is super impressive!

I started out by cleansing my face and instantly fell in love with the  Activiated Charcoal and Bamboo Face Cloth. This puppy is SOFT!

The Clean-Bee Cleanser had a light lemony scent. I found that I needed a little more than was recommended, maybe a nickel sized amount to sufficiently cleanse my (large) face. The cleanser left my skin feeling  refreshed and clean, but not dry.

Also, do not be jealous of my postpartum hair

After cleansing, I used a cotton pad to apply the Bee-Witched Toner. I did not notice a strong scent on this but it did provide a really pleasant cooling effect to the skin.

Lastly I applied the Bee-You-Tiful Moisturizer in small dots all across my face. The formula is fairly thick (which I love) and had a slight eucalyptus scent. My face felt SO hydrated and like the product had really sunk into my skin. I was not left with a greasy feel at all, which sometimes a heavier cream can do.

Overall, I really enjoyed this mini facial kit from Skinbuzz. It was such fun to have a little self-care sesh while on vacation! Get your kit here!

And that’s it you guys! xoxo!

Grande Lash Review

G’day little rasburries!

A major change has taken place in my life as of late. And a significant one at that. But before I tell you about it, allow me to provide a bit of backstory.

When I got pregnant, I worried about lots of things. If you’ve been around for a bit, you know this.

One thing I was particularly horrified of were the pictures taken of me AFTER giving birth. I knew they were inevitable. And even something as strong as my vanity could not stop them from happening. These photos are like mammograms. Hugely important, necessary even. But like, nobody LOOKS FORWARD to it. That’s how I felt about photos taken of me after the baby was born. I knew I would want them but was sort of cringing at how they’d turn out.

And really, I feel that society is to blame for this. I mean look at the examples set…

Aunt Becky’s slicked back hair and Catherine Heigl lookin’ buckled.

But I’m not stupid. The best defense is a good offense, as they say. Some women have babies in full glam,  with perfectly tousled beach waves, full-coverage makeup and custom-made hospital gowns to compliment their complexion. NOT REALISTIC. At least for me.

One thing I also noticed so many women are doing nowadays (especially before child birth) is  getting eyelash extensions. I have seen these look absolutely stunning on some people and atrocious on others. I feel the more natural they look, the better. The thicker and curlier the extension, the more cartoony they look, providing a perfect example for the word “full-on Monet”.  Hence, they photograph beautifully but in real life they can be kindof a big mess. They are also quite costly to install and maintain.  But man, did I want some big ol’ doe eyes in my post-baby hospital pics.

So then I decided on an eyelash serum.

That’s right, I decided to grow my own goddamn extensions. But where to start?

I’ve used Rapid Lash in the past and actually gotten decent results. It provided crazy length, but not much in the way of volume. I have also used castor oil on my lashes for years but that was really the extent of my efforts. I decided to throw a little more money in this time (Rapid Lash runs about $35). I have seen and heard about great results from Lash Boost, by Rodan and Fields but it also retails for $155. No way man. Grande Lash MD lands somewhere in the middle at $65 so I decided to give it a shot when it hit Haute Look for $50.

Here are the results!

*Disclaimer – To be fair, my eyelashes weren’t terrible to begin with. And I also did not take proper “before” shots.

After

sorry about the nostrils

I think the results are pretty amazing. And even though I did not look super cute in my after-baby pics (click here to see those) I am pretty satisfied with the results.

Have YOU ever used a lash serum? What are your thoughts?

Mac Patrick Starr Floral Realness Me So Chic Collection Review

So, I know I am a little late on this.

David very thoughtfully gave me this set for Christmas and thennnnn I had a baby and these products sat lonesome on my vanity for a good few weeks. You see, during that time makeup was the last item on my list of priorities. Then one day, I busted out these products and BAM! My love for makeup was rekindled. These products stoked my makeup fire FO SHO.

This set includes four amazing products.

Let’s dive in!

Stay With Me Eyeshadow Quad

This eyeshadow quad features four colors in the purple family, which I do not have much experience with. Luckily, Mac eyeshadows are a dream to work with. Super pigmented, blendable and they work SO well together.

I’m Not Blushing Cheek Duo

This blush/bronzer combination is absolutely beautiful. Y’all know I’m a sucker for a nice peachy blush and this one delivers! The bronzer is a nice, warm shade which actually works well as an all over color to warm up the skin.

Sweet Mamastarr Lipstick

Oh lord this shade is PERFECT! I would describe it as a darker, peachy nude with a hint of dusty rose. it is SO PRETTY.

On me:

Mamastarr Kiss Lipglass

It has been awhile since I have owned a Mac lipglass. I used to be ride or die about Pink Lemonade and Oyster Boy – anyone remember those shades!? This color is nude with a subtle sparkle and I LOVE IT.

Here it is over the matching lipstick:

AND NOW! Here is my attempt at a full face with all of these products. I had a great time trying all of these out one afternoon!

Then the baby woke up and I snapped this photo. It’s like, who me? Oh, I’m just lounging in bed with full makeup and purple eyeshadow. #realmom

Ulta Haul – The Essentials & Freebies

Bonjour babies!

I recently placed an order with Ulta and thought I would share this haul with my loyal readers, despite being filled with mostly boring essentials. Yess let’s go!

What I love most about ordering Ulta online, rather than shopping in-store is the amount of freebies! I have received their emails for years and unlike so many other emails that clutter up my inbox, the Ulta ones are actually worth a damn. Always a coupon, always a gift with purchase and always samples. If you do not currently get the emails from Ulta, do it.

Here’s what I got for $50 exactly: (apologies for the sh*t pics)

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Flick Liquid Eyeliner

I purchased this one based off a recommendation from the lovely Emily Noel. And MAN am I glad I did – this product is AMAZING.

Here is one tiny swipe, not even pressing down hard:

Black AF.

Covergirl Supersizer Mascara

This is my favorite mascara. YES it is tough to remove (just be patient!) but it literally keeps a curl, is separating AND lengthening AND voluminous. It is a freakin’ workhorse.

IT Cosmetics Celebration Illumination Powder Foundation

I decided to just bite the bullet and repurchase this absolutely stunning face powder. I also really like the Benefit Hello Flawless powder (seen here) for under my eyes, but this one just takes the cake in terms of face powder. I purchased the “light” shade if you are curious.

Ulta Cotton Rounds

Told you this was haul was going to be thrilling.

So Totally Clean Micellar Cleansing Water

I needed a new micellar water and since Bioderma is still not sold in the US anywhere, I went with this one.

And now for the freebies!

I received all of these items FREE for spending $50.

Here are a few of the highlights:

Covergirl Cheekers Blush in Iced Cappuccino

This blush is a TOTAL throwback. My girl Lacey and I used to pile this on in high school and I have to say – it is still such a good color! I am in love once again.

Winky Lux Highlighter in Charm

This bite-sized highlighter is almost too cute to use. The packaging? I MEAN. Be still my heart. The highlight itself is an iridescent pinky color, very creamy and very pigmented!

Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquer in Charmer

I like the consistency and color payoff of this gloss but the color is horrible on me. I’ll be passing along!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Illumination

The sample size of this product is LEGIT. I have used it a handful of times so far and it really isn’t my fave. It is nowhere as good as the Celebration powders.

Annnd last but certainly not least….

Coach Floral Eau De Parfum

This was not a freebie. Haha I wish. David picked this up for me the other weekend while we were on a date and casually handed it to me at the movies. It smells amazing (you can tell I have already used it ALOT) and the bottle? COME ON. I die.

Nostalgic Beauty Haul

Lately I’ve been feeling quite nostalgic.

Maybe it’s because I am growing a female human and am therefore having elaborate fantasies about the person she will one day become. Will she prefer Berenstain Bears or Amelia Bedelia? Will she be a lipstick or lipstain girl? Blue-razz or cherry icees? Tube tops or Carhartt bibs?

And it’s also got me thinking about the kind of girl I was. As an example, I was the girl who kept a steady supply of Malibu Musk, Exclamation and Love’s Baby Soft body sprays in her gym locker. I was the girl who begged my mom for a green Covergirl compact, for Lip Smackers peach shampoo and sparkly shirts from Abercrombie to pair with my low-rise L.E.I jeans. I wanted clear skin, perfectly curled lashes and a cloud of Charlie White to follow me wherever I went.

And lately, I have picked up and been sent a few things that have swept me back. Transported me to a time when my biggest worry was the possibility of my Loveable Beginnings training bra showing through my ONLY white Roxy tee shirt. When my college-ruled, 5 Star binders and pee chees organized my life, a good day was getting picked up first after basketball practice and sipping a Wild Cherry Clearly Canadian was the perfect accompaniment to any meal.

Here’s the highlights:

Honestly Margo Roll-On Lipgloss in Alexis Watermelon

OK GUYS. How cah-ute is this packaging?

For real though.

I love the 70’s vibe and the fact that this brand is women-run. All of their products are super unique (hello unicorn fizzy bath dust!)and contain wholesome, natural ingredients. I love that they came out with roll-on lipglosses because the last time I owned one of these was in 7th grade.

As a matter of fact, my pencil pouch from 6th-12th grade was STOCKED with Bonne Bell. I pretty much kept them in business. And I used to put on SO much of this specific gloss, it would literally drip off my lips:

Needless to say, as SOON as I applied the Roller Girls Roll-On Lipgloss it brought me right back!

Check out that shininess!

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

Due to the current state I am in (pregnant), my face has decided to rebel against me and break out. Annnnd again, I am right back in 9th grade! Shopping for acne products and realizing they still make Oxy Pads has been quite fun, actually. I decided to switch my face wash to this work horse of a face wash and so far I am happy to report that my skin has been A LOT better!

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Spot Gel

In addition to the Cetaphil face cleanser joining the battalion, I have also enlisted the help of a salicylic acid spot treatment. Prior to being pregnant (or B.P.), my skin had always reacted best with benzoyl peroxide but now I am alll about that salicylic baby. I basically dab dab dab a good amount of this all over my forehead (my most problematic area) and am usally substantially more clear in the morning. And if putting on a spot treatment every night doesn’t remind you of 9th grade, I don’t know what will.

Abercrombie & Fitch 8 Fragrance

I know everyone is shaking their heads at me for this one, but frankly I could care less. This was MY signature fragrance freshman year of college and sometimes you just need to go with what works. I caught a whiff of this stuff last time I was actually in an Abercrombie store and knew I had to have her again. If you have never smelled this before I would encourage you to do so. It is a very unique, feminine scent.

I also picked up a couple of samples at Abercrombie of their other women’s fragrances and so far I really like the Wakley scent.

Essence Get Big Lashes Volume Boost Mascara

I bought this one based off a recommendation from Casey Holmes but I should have stuck to the Lash Princess because this mascara is TERRIBLE. The amount of product that actually gets onto the lashes is dismal. It is a decent second mascara at best but I will never buy this one again.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish

I nabbed two of these polishes for less than $3 each at Freddies which is a STEAL considering that they are $10 a pop at regular price. You do need to have the gel topcoat for these polishes and often times the stores will carry a duo-pack containing the top coat and a color for a special price. I find that while the formula takes FOREVER to dry, the polish actually lasts on my nails for up to 10 days and can withstand dish-washing, warm laundry folding and bathtub scrubbing. HIGHLY recommend these polishes.

Treets Traditions Nourishing Spirits Hand Lotion + Revitalizing Hair & Body Wash

I was sent these two products complimentary for testing and have very much enjoyed them both so far. As a side note, I have noticed the brand popping up in T.J Maxx so that is a WIN in my book!

Benefit Brow Contour Pro Review

Hello my jiggly cheesecakes!

It has been quite a while since good ol’ Influenster sent me anything. I was beginning to think I had totally fallen off their radar and that they had completely forgotten about me and my need for complimentary products. But then I got a survey and fiddle-dee-dee! I received a little box in the mail containing a product just for me, and for FREE. Pretty neat.

Seriously, sign up for Influenster here. It’s totally free AND you can opt out of the emails. Especially if you have decent numbers on social media!

This time it was all about brows. Enter the Benefit Brow Contour Pro!

Obviously Benefit is killing it will their whole line of brow products. The packaging is killer, the products work great and the offer a wide selection of colors.

I received mine in Brown/Light since my hair is (let’s be honest) constantly a different shade of bronde.

This product features four different “products” in one, including two brow shades (one lighter and one darker) a definer and a highlighter. YOU KNOW whoever masterminded this creation was a child of the 80’s because, duh:

Here is the way Benefit recommends the product be applied:

APPLICATION

Other than the fact that I thought the tip of the brow colors were a bit large (I am used to the ABH Brow Whiz) I was very pleased at how easy the colors applied. They deposited color throughout my brows evenly and easily. The definer shade does require a bit of blending as the color was not a dead-on match for my skin. I found that with a small flat brush, it blended out like a dream.

FORMULA

I would say the formula is a bit softer than the ABH Brow Whiz, but not as creamy as a typical liner. I like eyebrow pencils to be a bit firmer, as the idea of a smudgy pencil in my brows makes me cringe. The pigmentation for all four colors is very good.

WEAR

This product lasted very well on me which is sayin’ alot because right now I am actually a bit on the oily side. I found that it did not fade in any funky way, yet removing it with my typical face wash was a breeze.

What products DO YOU love for the brows?!
