Makeup Revolution Conceal and Hydrate Review

Good day little buttons!

I’m back with you today for a review of some v exciting products.

Those of you that know me well, are well aware of my affinity for a dewy face. It has yet to dew me wrong! (Sorry – hard for me not to pun when it strikes like that). So when I saw that Makeup Revolution had released a new sister concealer (that is hydrating!) to the ever-popular Conceal and Define – I knew I had to try!

When I went to Ulta to grab it, I realized two things:

  1. There was also a Conceal and Hydrate foundation
  2. Ulta was running a gift with purchase for spending $15 on Makeup Revolution

Mystery GWP

The tightwad and makeup hoarder inside of me was singing! I happily grabbed both, used $3 in points I had been banking and was on my merry way. When I got to the car, I tore into the mystery GWP I was just handed and let out a gasp.

There was a good $50 worth of products in there! See below:

So exciting!

I was looking forward to trying out the lipsticks especially, until I saw the colors…maybe for Halloween?

Anyway, let’s get on to the foundation review!

I opted for shade F3 after doing some quick jawline swatches with the in-store testers. I had Clara with me and doing this one-handed was no easy task.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn they put a pump on this version, rather than the large doe foot applicator. I am a big fan of the pump.

Now, onto the concealer!

I went with shade C2. Again, I wish I had more time to select the right shade but MOM LIFE.

Onto application! Here we are fresh-faced. Here, I am wearing moisturizer, primer and eye cream.

Here is photographic proof of why you should stay the F out of the sun.

I decided that I would try a beauty sponge AND a makeup brush with the foundation.

Flower Beauty Sponge

Sephora Mini Airbrush

The color was a pretty good match for me. Maybe a teensy bit too light, but overall not bad. One pump of this stuff covered my whole face and the consistency is more on the watery side.

Here we are with one coat of the foundation. I did not apply under my eyes.

As you can see, one layer does not provide full coverage. I did dot a little more directly on my sun spots directly, which did provide a bit more coverage.

Now, onto the concealer. (C’s sweet face in the background hahaaaaa). The color of the concealer was just a tad too dark. I do enjoy me a very light concealer.

Here we are all serious and blended out.

I really liked the concealer right away! Good coverage, VERY hydrating and easy to blend out.

For fun, I decided to dip into some of the freebies to finish off the look! Here is the contour pallete in Fair.

Of course I had to dip my finger RIGHT ON INTO the highlight shade to see what it was packing. It is actually a really gorgeous highlight!

Here we are contoured, blushed and highlighted! I also set my face with the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder FTW.

To finish, I added some mascara – this is the YSL The Shock mascara. It is a good one but you know how I feel about prestige mascaras. Drugstore mascara 4 LIFE.

Here we are with a little bit of brows and mascara on.

You can see a tiny part of Clara’s little hand in the bottom right of this photo.

Next, I decided to try the flawless foil eyeshadow.

There did not seem to be any directions provided on the box, but the liquid inside indicated it was a primer, so I placed a drop or two on my finger and patted it on my lids. Then, I dipped into the shadow (again, with my finger) and was surprised that it had a creamy texture. I patted the product on top of the primer and was left with the following effect.

Definitely pretty, but I am not sure it is worth the fuss of doing two separate steps.

And can I get an amen for my lashes?

I am telling you guys, go get you some Grande Lash. It works very, very well.

Overall – I liked both the foundation and concealer. I think I like the concealer a little better but I need to get a slightly lighter shade. The foundation is nice but I do not think it is ground-breaking. I do like the finish on the skin and how little of the product you need to cover the whole face.

Special thanks to my trusty sidekick Clara.

Ulta Haul

Hello my little rays of sunshine!

It’s supposed to get into the 80’s this week in Portland and if it does, I will surely DIE of happiness. I am so ready guys.

Last weekend, David, E and I ventured out to a shopping plaza and wouldn’t you know it…there was an Ulta!? Surprisingly, Portland doesn’t really have too many Ulta stores and sometimes a girls just needs her fix. I shopped around for about 30 minutes before David and E joined in and we had to go (the temptation to touch EVERYTHING is just too real for a 6 year old).

I knew I was going to buy one of the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow shades but couldn’t decide on one – they’re all gorgeous. I made up my mind and David stood in line with my ONE purchase while I walked E down to get some froyo. Later that day at home, he surprised me with a bunch of the stuff I had wanted at Ulta but didn’t buy. What a guy! So here’s the lineup!

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow in Smoldering Satin

You guys, this stuff is so freaking pretty. I might have to get every shade eventually. I wore it out to dinner that night (to the Olive Garden, what what!?) and absolutely could not stop staring at myself. haha

FYI – If you plan to try this product out, PLEASE BE ADVISED that it necessitates a glitter glue underneath. If you skip this step, you will have a hot mess of glitter all over yer mug. I used this one and it worked just great, which I found at Sally’s for $1.79

Now…back to the haul!

Eyelure Luxe Lashes in Baroque and Opulent

I have been eyeing (get it?) the “mink effect” style lashes for a while. Ardell has a couple styles out, but these ones from Eyelure are SO gorgeous. Look how wispy-soft they look! I cannot WAIT to don these puppies. Of course, I’ll take pics for you guys.

Tony Moly Pocket Bunny Sleek Mist

You guys know I wanted this 99% because of the packaging. I picture throwing this in mummer beach bag and spritzing myself before I run out to the beach. But like, in reality I will be using this to set my face after makeup during the hotter summer months.

Soap & Glory Pillow Plump XXL Lip Gloss in Nude in Town

This color is SO pretty you guys. Don’t let the shade in the tube fool you too much. It is THEE perfect nude ever. I have wanted one of these glosses forever but already owned the Buxom Full-On Lip Creams which also boast a plumping effect. Lemme tell ya, this stuff packs some SERIOUS tingle so you if you’re not a fan of the lip plumpers, steer clear of this. I happen to love the buzzing, tingling feeling – it’s like a little fairy is dancing on my lips saying “Get prettier! Come on! You can do it!” But like, pretty much it just eliminates the lines in my lips and makes them appear slightly more voluptuous.

GIANT ULTA HAUL

I felt like making the title of this blog post as much like the title of a YouTube video as possible.

image

And SPEAKING of YouTube…I was burying myself in some more weird-ass videos the other day. You guys know how I do. One day it’s people obsessed with those claw machines at Wal-Mart and the next it’s people who pay large sums of money for eerily realistic, anatomically correct silicon baby dolls. These people make videos as if the baby is alive…feeding them, changing their diaper, waking them up from a nap. I was enamored. I still am.

So right – yes – an Ulta haul! I had a $50 gift card from my birthday burning a hole in pocket and I knew I wanted to wait to use it until summer time. No easy feat my friends. Here is what I selected:

L’Oreal  Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Serum in Medium

image

I decided to give the serum a shot after reading good reviews. I have been a long-time fan of the Sublime Bronze Tinted Self-Tanning Lotion for it’s good color and easy application but I literally cannot STAND the glitter. This doesn’t seem to have any glitter and I love that it is a quick-dry formula. I will keep you all posted on how I like it!

L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Mist

image

Ulta had a BOGO on these L’oreal self tanners so i decided to pick this one up as well, as I have never tried it before. I find that most aerosol self-tanners yield far less uses than a lotion, gel or mousse, but they are SO easy to use. I plan to try this one out ASAP because I am going on a special trip this weekend ;).

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk

image

Thank the LORD Ulta started carrying Soap & Glory!!!! I am addicted to so many of their products and when I noticed this product was available online (not sure about in-store) I knew I needed it. I am basically out of the Shiseido Cleansing Fluide that I got several months ago so the timing was perf. I am SO excited about this and I LOVE that it has a pump.

Soap & Glory Body Sprays in Original Pink and Smoothie Star

image

YOU GUYS. I literally peed my pants when I saw these on the Ulta website. Ever since S&G left Sephora and they discontinued their perfume, I have been devastated. NO JOKE I have considered ordering the scent on ebay. So when I saw they were selling body sprays in their addictive, wonderful, unique scents I knew I needed both of them. PLUS they were only $6 a pop and they actually last decently long so I am just OVERJOYED I have these!

Ulta Brand Makeup Blending Sponge Duo

image

I bought these pups on a recommendation from Casey Holmes but then I talked to my sister last week and she said they are NOT good. So they are probs going back because I trust Meggy’s opinion on makeup application tools implicitly.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in Bronzer

image

Ever since Jaclyn Hill RAVED about this bronzer, I knew I had to have it. It went on sale for $8.99 on Ulta.com and I debated whether or not to get the light color, or the bronze color. I am glad I went with the bronze color because it is perfect! It also smells how I think Adriana Lima smells. OMG I am so excited to cover my face with this stuff!

Makeup Revolution Cream Contour Palette

image

image

SO. I have been wanting a cream contour palette for awhile now. I knew I wasn’t going to shell out the money for the Anastasia or Kevin Aucoin one, and after watching TONS of reviews on the NYX, Elf and Makeup Revolution ones respectively, I decided to go with this one. I swatched a few of the colors right away and they are a thinner consistency which is good. I must do more testing to figure out if this is any good and of course, I will let you know!

NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadow in Dance the Tides

image

image

I have been on the hunt for some richer, warm shades as I find they really compliment blue eyes. When I read somewhere that this color was a dupe for Mac’s saddle, I HAD to get it and after one swatch I already know it’s going to be MONEY buffed into the crease.

Free Gift: Redken Beach Envy Samples

image

Dont you just love free things!? I am really pumped to try all these guys, especially the leave-in treatment and beach volume spray.

I also got a Cargo Cosmetics bag filled with deluxe sized samples that I forgot to photograph:(. However, here are some of the products I got:

pT1U5Arr (1)

I haven’t heard the best things about the new Honest skin care line but like, how bad can a hydration mist be?

_10188707

I am SO pumped to try this setting spray with SPF from Coola! I really like this brand and think it’s genius that someone finally came out with a setting spray with SPF.

1003-01677-bliss-btg-hide-glow-sleek-fair-to-md-pdp

The whole “fat girl slim” thing to me is a bit of a hoax. I mean, you can’t get skinnier by spraying a product on your thighs or else the whole world would look like Gigi Hadid. However, I am a big fan of tinted body mists (like Airbrush Legs from Sally Hanson) because I am very, very white.

TAR096-2T

Lastly, I got a sample of this self tanner from Tarte, which I have previously purchased the full size of. I am not a huge fan of this stuff. It has an olive base which doesn’t jive with m’undertones as much a red-based tanner. Nonetheless, I will be using it.

And that’s all she I wrote! Let me know new products YOU have purchased lately!

Ulta/Drugstore Haul

Nothing like a healthy dose of good ol’ fashioned consumerism to brighten up your hump day.

Amiright?!

This haul is comprised of multiple trips to the drugstore, one trip to Nordstrom and a recent order I placed on Ulta.com.

SO. I have made a great discovery in buying stuff at Ulta. First, you gotta sign up for the emails. Then, they will barrage your inbox with heaps of deals and coupons. Most of the time, I just use the $3.50 off a $10 purchase coupon in the store and call it good. BUT. I have recently gotten wise to the special offers that come through, kinda like this one I got the other day:

unnamed

That’s a good deal, right?

Well, what I do is this: I save up a bunch of things I need to get at Ulta. Boring things. Like dryshampoo, razors, face lotion, mascara, bobby pins or cotton rounds. Or, if I have an upcoming birthday gift or mothers day gift to get, I will pick something from Ulta. The Lorac Pro palette for my sister or a little bottle of Chanel perfume for my mom. Perf.

Between the little crap that I need OR one larger gift item – I have easily hit the $40 mark and have now spent enough to get the awesome free gift online. But it doesn’t stop there. I have also qualified for free shipping, used my handy-dandy $3.50 off coupon (only for non-prestige brands) AND will receive three free samples with my online purchase. HIGHWAY ROBBERY guys.

I used this maneuver on my recent order and well, here’s the loot!

Bathina Body Oil Mist $34

IMG_2179

Funnily enough, I discovered this product because of Lo Bosworth. Remember Lo? She was the normal-person touchstone on The Hills and is now going to culinary school and occasionally putting out the random vid on YouTube.

She recommended this oil and I was all, “well if LO likes it…”. I tested it out a few times on various shopping excursions and COULD NOT STOP smelling my skin. The scent is so beautiful and feminine and therefore I needed it.

Mac Lipstick in Sunny Seoul $16

I posted this lipstick before, but thought I’d mention it again because it really is SO beautiful and springy. I love the cremesheen + pearl formula and this one especially, is so creamy and buildable.

Essence Silky Touch Blush in Life’s A Cherry $3

IMG_2175

I have already praised these blushes from Essence. They are velvety soft and the pigmentation is great.

Essence Crystal Eyeliner in Gold Rush $3

csm_74942_b4f5cff281

YOU GUYS. I think glitter is making a COMEBACK. Urban Decay recently released a new line of glitters so it must be true. I picked this one up after trying the sample at Fred Meyer and realizing it was just glorious. I can’t wait to pop a little bit on my lower lash line and be like, totes on trend.

NYX Butter Gloss in Eclair $5

IMG_2174

Speaking of on trend, I feel like ANYTHING with the word “butter” in the name is an instant hit right now. Lip butter. Body butter. Butter polish. I also happen to like actual butter, but that is neither here nor there.

These glosses are SO hyped across the WWW and on YouTube so I just had to jump on the bandwagon. So far, I luuurve but I will keep ya’ll posted.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Gumdrop $6

IMG_2169

I had to get a coordinating lipstick and obvi I chose the Barbiest pink there was. Which I am also noticing is another trend for this spring. Barbie lips and glittery eyes?! Thank God! The dark vampy lip trend from winter is becoming so blasé for me.

NYX Lip Primer $7

IMG_2176

I mostly bought this lip primer because I have a couple of lipsticks that feather really bad on me. I also wanted to try it under red lipstick, which is the worst offender of feathering, or bleeding. I will let you know how I like it!

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk $4.50

_8079557

This is a definite staple in my makeup collection and the second one I have purchased. It works great as an eye base or as a waterline brightener. The pigmentation is amazing and it stays put wonderfully.

It Cosmetics Freebie

IMG_2177

I received this little set for spending $40 online. I specifically waited for an It Cosmetics gift to come up because I have been dying to try the Bye Bye Undereye Concealer and the CC cream. I also received a Hydrating Gloss Stain in Naturally Flushed.

IMG_2172

The concealer sample is in medium, which might be a little too dark for my undereye area (I am PALE y’all) but I’m still going to give ‘er a shot.

Maybelline The Rocket Mascara $7.50

300

I have been using up all of my mascara samples and finally needed a fresh one. This is one of my favorites from the drugstore. It has a rubberized wand, is extremely separating and hold a curl REAL nice.

Wet’n’Wild Mega Last Lipstick in Pinkerbelle $2

220

I almost have the entire line of these lipsticks and for darn good reason. They are SO pigmented, they last forever on the lips, the color selection is perfection AND – they cost $1.99. How can you not?

This shade is just SO completely gorgeous, like a mix of neon pink, bright salmon and just a slight hint of orange. It’s brill.

Biotin 2.49

11031166_201307051205

I take my biotin everyday so naturally, I go through it pretty quick. This is my third bottle and it WORKS.

Jordana Lipstick in Perfect Pink $1.49

IMG_2219

I picked up this lipstick whilst shopping at the world’s oldest KMart in Hamilton, Montana (more on that later). The color sucked me in and it was only $1.49 so, match made in heaven. Unfortunately the formula is pretty dry. I have topped it with a lipgloss for better success but it is not a standout.

Jordana Blush in Coral Sandy Beach and Pink Beauty $2.49

IMG_2218

The blushes are definitely the stars of the Jordana line. I picked up the only two shades they had left and so far, I’m really impressed with the color payoff and staying power. The colors are amazing and the packaging is really compact, which is nice.

WHEW!

That was kindofalot. Stay tuned for an upcoming post about my hurr…yes, I ordered extensions. Yes, it’s the BIG TIME.
