Laneige Kiss Me at Midnight Set Review

Good day sugar cookies!

And happy November. I feel that every person falls into one of two different camps this time of year. Those that scoff at the idea of Christmas decorations going up days after Halloween, and those who relish it. I consider myself more a relisher but also a realist. I am not dragging the holiday totes down just yet but gimme a week or two and don’t you worry I’LL BE THERE.

But no matter which camp you fall in, there is no doubting that the holidays are quickly approaching and I find it only apropos to blog about a sweet lil holiday set I have been digging.

This would be the Laneige Kiss Me at Midnight set from Sephora.

I knew I needed to try the Sleeping Mask after my sister and so many others have raved about it. You see, this time of year my lips just take a beating. My husband buys Carmex (in the tub not the tube) in bulk and swears by it, but I am not a fan.

So when I saw this little set come out for the holidays I knew I wanted to get it. It contains:

  • A full size Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry
  • Two smaller (.10 oz) Lip Sleeping Masks in Mint Choco and Sweet Candy

The set retails for $28 which I thought was a good deal, as the full size retails for $20 on it’s own. I realize paying an additional $8 for the two smaller sizes might feel unnecessary but when I saw the flaves I knew I had to try. Even so, $28 for chapstick?  Yeah, it’s a little extra. Esp considering the fact that I do not exactly have voluptuous lips.

So what’s the verdict?

It is a great lip product. Is it earth-shattering and awe-inspiring? No. It hydrates and feels very nice on the lips. I like the Sweet Candy scent the best (go fig) and kinda wish I would have just bought the full size of that scent for $20 but whatevs. It will be nice to have the extras to keep at work and in a purse. Overall,  if you have super dry lips and an extra $20 bucks lying around, go get you some!

The Organic Skin Co. Review

Hello lovely fall pumpkins!

I know saying, “I cannot believe it is October already!” is cliche. I also know that saying it is cliche, is cliche. But for real, hello fall? It happened so fast. Here in Portland, the summer went by way too quickly and was FAR too mild for my liking. We’ve already got weeks of rain ahead of us in the forecast and David plugged in our gas fireplace the other day so here we go! I guess it’s time for fall.

In light of this change in season and subsequent change in weather – my skin care needs are ever evolving. I tend to need heavier, thicker creams and hydrating products for the fall and winter because for me, moisture is everything!  Enter: The Organic Skin Co.

WORD.

The Organic Skin Co. sent me a sampling of skincare and beauty products to try out so let’s get to it, shall we?!

Here we have:

  • Clean Slate Holy Basil Cleanser
  • Task Force Nine Calendula and Tumeric Cream
  • All About the Gloss Lipgloss in Mist
  • In the Spotlight Luminzer in Lunar
  • Daily Rituals Rosehip and Orange Moisturizer
  • Prep’n’Prime Face Primer in Rose Gold

The Clean Slate Holy Basil Cleanser

This is a nice overall cleanser that does a great job of removing makeup, yet staying lightweight. It left my skin feeling soft and clean.

Task Force Nine Cream

I really like the scent of this yellow-tinged lotion. I would say the consistency is well-balanced, not too heavy or too lightweight. It is very soothing and would probably feel great on sensitive or sun-burned skin. I have been using this as a daytime moisturizer underneath primer.

All About the Gloss Lipgloss in Mist

What a beautiful color for fall!  At first I was not sure I would like the color on me but it totally works (even with no makeup on!). This gloss is comfortable to wear, does not have a gross “taste” and wears lovely on the lips.

In the Spolight Luminizer in Luna

This cream luminizer is very subtle and somewhat of a challenge to apply. Once blended in, the glow is soft and natural. Not what I usually grab for, but a nice change of pace nonetheless.

Daily Rituals Rosehip and Orange Moisturizer

This moisturizer is no joke. It is a thick, yellow-tinged cream and the moisture it provides is very nice. I would not recommend this stuff under makeup unless you are in some serious need of hydration. I have been using this as a night cream and really liking it so far.

Prep’n’Prime Face Primer in Rose Gold

It should also be noted that all these products are not only organic, but also Cruelty Free and Vegan.

Overall I have really enjoyed playing with and using these products from The Organic Skin Co. The skincare and makeup  items seem to work together harmoniously and I like that they keep the line really simple. It is always refreshing to see a brand being so ethical, making products that keep the planet top-of-mind. Using these products just make me feel good!

Special thanks to The Organic Skin Co for sending me these products.

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Hydrate Review

Good day little buttons!

I’m back with you today for a review of some v exciting products.

Those of you that know me well, are well aware of my affinity for a dewy face. It has yet to dew me wrong! (Sorry – hard for me not to pun when it strikes like that). So when I saw that Makeup Revolution had released a new sister concealer (that is hydrating!) to the ever-popular Conceal and Define – I knew I had to try!

When I went to Ulta to grab it, I realized two things:

  1. There was also a Conceal and Hydrate foundation
  2. Ulta was running a gift with purchase for spending $15 on Makeup Revolution

Mystery GWP

The tightwad and makeup hoarder inside of me was singing! I happily grabbed both, used $3 in points I had been banking and was on my merry way. When I got to the car, I tore into the mystery GWP I was just handed and let out a gasp.

There was a good $50 worth of products in there! See below:

So exciting!

I was looking forward to trying out the lipsticks especially, until I saw the colors…maybe for Halloween?

Anyway, let’s get on to the foundation review!

I opted for shade F3 after doing some quick jawline swatches with the in-store testers. I had Clara with me and doing this one-handed was no easy task.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn they put a pump on this version, rather than the large doe foot applicator. I am a big fan of the pump.

Now, onto the concealer!

I went with shade C2. Again, I wish I had more time to select the right shade but MOM LIFE.

Onto application! Here we are fresh-faced. Here, I am wearing moisturizer, primer and eye cream.

Here is photographic proof of why you should stay the F out of the sun.

I decided that I would try a beauty sponge AND a makeup brush with the foundation.

Flower Beauty Sponge

Sephora Mini Airbrush

The color was a pretty good match for me. Maybe a teensy bit too light, but overall not bad. One pump of this stuff covered my whole face and the consistency is more on the watery side.

Here we are with one coat of the foundation. I did not apply under my eyes.

As you can see, one layer does not provide full coverage. I did dot a little more directly on my sun spots directly, which did provide a bit more coverage.

Now, onto the concealer. (C’s sweet face in the background hahaaaaa). The color of the concealer was just a tad too dark. I do enjoy me a very light concealer.

Here we are all serious and blended out.

I really liked the concealer right away! Good coverage, VERY hydrating and easy to blend out.

For fun, I decided to dip into some of the freebies to finish off the look! Here is the contour pallete in Fair.

Of course I had to dip my finger RIGHT ON INTO the highlight shade to see what it was packing. It is actually a really gorgeous highlight!

Here we are contoured, blushed and highlighted! I also set my face with the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder FTW.

To finish, I added some mascara – this is the YSL The Shock mascara. It is a good one but you know how I feel about prestige mascaras. Drugstore mascara 4 LIFE.

Here we are with a little bit of brows and mascara on.

You can see a tiny part of Clara’s little hand in the bottom right of this photo.

Next, I decided to try the flawless foil eyeshadow.

There did not seem to be any directions provided on the box, but the liquid inside indicated it was a primer, so I placed a drop or two on my finger and patted it on my lids. Then, I dipped into the shadow (again, with my finger) and was surprised that it had a creamy texture. I patted the product on top of the primer and was left with the following effect.

Definitely pretty, but I am not sure it is worth the fuss of doing two separate steps.

And can I get an amen for my lashes?

I am telling you guys, go get you some Grande Lash. It works very, very well.

Overall – I liked both the foundation and concealer. I think I like the concealer a little better but I need to get a slightly lighter shade. The foundation is nice but I do not think it is ground-breaking. I do like the finish on the skin and how little of the product you need to cover the whole face.

Special thanks to my trusty sidekick Clara.

Spring Makeup Haul

Hello dumplin’ flowers!

Spring is in the air isn’t it? I can always tell because without warning my nose starts itching like a sonofagun and drip-drip-drips like a leaky faucet. It is bittersweet, that feeling of a looming allergy attack mixed with the burst of pure glee from 2 hour pockets of 65 degree sunshiney weather! Bring it on.

And with the change of seasons always comes the downpour of new products. Here are some recent purchases I thought I would share.

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadow in Ladybird

This shade and formula is just mesmerizing. SO much pigment and super fine glitter packed into a velvety, almost creamy consistency. I cannot quit these shadows. They are too good.

L’Oreal Shake and Glow Dew Mist

I bought a little bottle of this based off a recommendation from my seester Megan. I can confirm that it is in fact a new favorite and a full sized version will be purchased. It does exactly what it claims to do, providing a gorgeous dewy finish to the skin. Plus it smells amazing!

Essence Extreme Lasting Eye Pencil in Blacklove

This I purchased based off a recommendation from Kristin Gehm. She uses all kinds of super high-end makeup, yet this $3 pencil remains her holy grail water line eyeliner. I had to give it a shot and I can confirm that it STAYS PUT in the water line and is also great as typical eyeliner too. It is richly black and glides on with ease.

Essence Make me Brow in Blonde

This was a re-purchase. I really like this little eyebrow gel. It is nicely tinted and the color is perfect for me. It is great for those days where I do not have time to do a full brow but is also wonderful as a last step when I am doing a full brow.

St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Face Mist

This little stinker was a b*tch to track down! I have wanted a tanning water ever since Sephora discontinued their gradual self tanning water that I loved. I strongly dislike applying self-tan lotions, mousses or gels to my face because I always feel like they are too intense. I loved the “gradual” aspect of the Sephora brand one, and I could apply it with a cotton pad like you would a toner. When I saw that St. Tropez had a “water-based” face mist, I knew I wanted to try it. So far, I really like it. Of course it is a cinch to apply and the color is not too intense at all.

Elf Camo Concealer

I am considering doing a full review of this stuff, for all the hype it has received. At this point, I can confirm it is a bulletproof, super high-coverage formula. It is like paint. It dries super quickly and is quite troublesome to blend. It is very drying (read: I DO NOT set it with a powder) but is also wearable with a good eye cream underneath. The jury’s still out on whether or not I love it or hate it, but one thing is for sure – it’s a $5 concealer that will cover ANYTHING.

And that’s all for now! xoxo

Hard Candy Spring Collection Haul

Hi there gerber daisies!

And who is ready for Spring?! Of course you know I am. Unfortunately I live in Portland, where we experience a seemingly endless gray drizzle most of the year. Of course right now it is the worst and so begins my annual let’s-move-to-Scottsdale Arizona rant. Do I know anyone in Scottsdale? NO. Have I ever been to Scottsdale? NO. Would I move there in the blink of an eye after 4 months of nonstop rain and the relentless use of a Happy Light? Why, YES. Yes I would.

One of the only things that keeps me sane during these endless rain-fests is the promise of beautiful Portland summers. And recently, I was sent a lovely box of brand spanking new Hard Candy goodies from the spring collection. What a way to lighten up a dark Portland day!

Here are the goods!

Baked Powder Highlighting Trio in Make the First Mauve

This highlighting trio comes with three shades that create a beautiful, sculpted, glowy cheek! This set also comes with a brush which is really reat quality.

Overall I really like this product. I used the farthest right shade as a blush, the middle shade as a cheek-topper on the apples of my cheeks and the far left shade as a traditional highlight. The effect is gorgeous.

Stroke of Gorgeous 12-Hour Smudge Proof Felt Tip Eyeliner

I have not tried this eyeliner yet but I promise to report back!

Sheer Envy Redness Relief Face Serum

I do not have much trouble with redness but I am sure this will come in handy during the summer months! Green Tea and Cucumber would be so soothing! I plan to actually put this stuff in the fridge and use it cold.

Just Glow All Over Body Luminizer

First of all, this product smells AMAZING. Beachy, coconutty and fresh. It comes with a pump and it absorbed into the skin nicely, comparable to a light body oil/gel hybrid. It does leave behind a subtle sparkle

Swatched:

Glitteratzi Glitter and Chrome Eyeshadow Duo in Mercury Rising

This product is really stunning! The “chrome” end is super opaque and a really gorgeous rose gold shade. The glitter is SUPER beautiful and comparable to the Stila Glitter and Glow maybe just a little bit less saturated. But at $7 a pop, I might have to pick up a couple more of these colors!

I am so excited to continue to use these products into the spring. Maybe if I start now, it will happen sooner!

Thanks again Hard Candy! Check out or purchase these products by clicking here. #hardcandylyfe

Birthday + Christmas Makeup Haul!

Hello friends!

My birthday and Christmas this year was a DOOZY.

You see, I had my daughter on the 27th so you can guess how I was feeling 2 and 3 days prior to that. NOT AWESOME. I experienced mind-boggling heart burn towards the end of my pregnancy and on Christmas Eve (my birthday) and Christmas day, I was still reeling from a couple nights of no sleep filled with toe-curling pain. And if  you Google a heart burn friendly diet (also a gallbladder diet, which at the time I thought I was having issues with), you will understand how greatly this impacts holiday food options. And if you have been pregnant before, you will also understand JUST HOW MUCH food means to you. At times, it is all you look forward to. For me, Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner was comprised of THEE blandest food you can possibly think of. Also –

  • no carbonated beverages
  • no caffeine
  • nothing acidic or spicy
  • no peppermint (thus no candy canes)
  • nothing fried or high in fat

and worst of all….

nothing high in sugar

My Christmas dinner was comprised of white turkey meat and mashed potatoes with no butter. I couldn’t even have a sugar cookie because they had peppermint icing. Have I painted a sh*tty enough picture for you all here? My birthday and Christmas were abysmal.

Lucky for me, my sweet husband and dear sister Rachel were able to remedy this dire situation with the one thing on earth that ALWAYS makes me feel better…

MEEKUPS!

Check out the loot.

Bobbi Brown Highlight and Glow Duo

The highlight in this palette is just GORGEOUS but the blush for me is mehh. And for $65, these two shades best be poppin’.

Mac Patrick Starrr Patrick’s Powder

This powder was in high demand and for darn good reason! It is truly a lovely setting powder and gives the face a beautiful, flawless finish.

Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette

This palette. Ohhhhh this palette. Everyone and their mom either owns it or has seen it. For me, these shadows really live up to the hype. My sister Rachel hit the bullseye giving me this and I really have worn it everyday since I got it!

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer

The jury is still out on this product. So far, I think I love it but I only like it on it’s own and without a setting powder. The problem with not setting it, is that it is prone to moving on me. Into fine lines, and worse, leaving little spots on the sides of my nose from my glasses. It is gorgeous, but I do love the ability to set my undereye concealer.

Glam Glow Birthday Gift

I was very excited to receive these two products from Sephora this year for the birthday gift! Any of the Glam Glow masks are AWESOME and the moisturizer is very nice as well.

Mac Patrick Starr Floral Realness Me So Chic Collection Review

So, I know I am a little late on this.

David very thoughtfully gave me this set for Christmas and thennnnn I had a baby and these products sat lonesome on my vanity for a good few weeks. You see, during that time makeup was the last item on my list of priorities. Then one day, I busted out these products and BAM! My love for makeup was rekindled. These products stoked my makeup fire FO SHO.

This set includes four amazing products.

Let’s dive in!

Stay With Me Eyeshadow Quad

This eyeshadow quad features four colors in the purple family, which I do not have much experience with. Luckily, Mac eyeshadows are a dream to work with. Super pigmented, blendable and they work SO well together.

I’m Not Blushing Cheek Duo

This blush/bronzer combination is absolutely beautiful. Y’all know I’m a sucker for a nice peachy blush and this one delivers! The bronzer is a nice, warm shade which actually works well as an all over color to warm up the skin.

Sweet Mamastarr Lipstick

Oh lord this shade is PERFECT! I would describe it as a darker, peachy nude with a hint of dusty rose. it is SO PRETTY.

On me:

Mamastarr Kiss Lipglass

It has been awhile since I have owned a Mac lipglass. I used to be ride or die about Pink Lemonade and Oyster Boy – anyone remember those shades!? This color is nude with a subtle sparkle and I LOVE IT.

Here it is over the matching lipstick:

AND NOW! Here is my attempt at a full face with all of these products. I had a great time trying all of these out one afternoon!

Then the baby woke up and I snapped this photo. It’s like, who me? Oh, I’m just lounging in bed with full makeup and purple eyeshadow. #realmom
